Morning after the rager. OZZY's house, wrecked — red cups on the trophy shelf, streamers in the chandelier's corpse, TONY passed out face-down on the couch, one suitor snoring in the pool. Gray dawn light. TELLY stands in the middle of the ruin of his brother's home, holding a framed photo someone knocked off the wall — Ozzy in his jersey, #0 — and something in the kid's face has finished turning from scared to furious.
TELLY (quiet, to the photo) — They wrote you off by midnight. "Pick a new king, Penny." Like you're just... gone. (sets the photo upright, careful) You're not gone. You're just not here yet.
A presence in the wrecked doorway — ATHENA, down from the hills, out of the shadows for the first time in the flesh. The goddess as Mentor: she's come to light the fire under the kid the way she can't seem to reach his brother.
ATHENA — He isn't coming to you, Telly. Some roads, somebody has to go get.
TELLY (turning, startled) — ...who are—
ATHENA — Somebody who's had her eye on your family a long time. (a small smile) You've been waiting by a phone. Your brother waited by nothing and drove into the dark. Which one of you is more his kin?
She lets that land. TELLY looks at the photo, at the wreckage, at the door. The number builds.
